Updated:
When the weather turns crisp and cozy, there’s nothing more comforting than a warm baked apple fresh from the oven. These Cinnamon Maple Baked Apples are stuffed with a lightly spiced oat filling and drizzled with pure maple syrup, creating a simple dessert that feels like a hug in a bowl. The apples soften into tender perfection while the filling toasts and caramelizes, creating layers of flavor in every spoonful.
Ideal for fall gatherings, holiday dinners, or a wholesome dessert any night of the week, this recipe is naturally sweetened, easy to prepare, and can be made ahead. Serve them on their own, or elevate them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat!
Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tbsp maple syrup (plus extra for drizzling)
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: raisins or dried cranberries (1–2 tbsp)
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish.
2. Core the Apples:
- Wash the apples and slice off the top ½ inch.
- Use a spoon or apple corer to carefully scoop out the cores, creating a well in each apple, but leave the bottoms intact.
3. Make the Filling:
- In a bowl, mix oats, softened butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, salt, and nuts (if using). Add raisins or dried fruit if desired.
4. Stuff & Bake:
- Spoon the filling into each apple.
- Place apples in the prepared baking dish and drizzle with a little extra maple syrup.
- Add ¼ cup of water to the bottom of the dish to prevent burning and help steam the apples.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes, or until apples are soft and golden.
5. Serve Warm:
- Drizzle with more maple syrup if desired.
- Serve warm with ice cream, yogurt, or whipped cream.
Serving Tips:
- Try with Greek yogurt and chopped nuts for a breakfast version.
- Use different apple varieties for subtle flavor changes.
- Add a splash of bourbon or rum to the filling for an adult twist.
